The Beauty of Cancer Season: Astrological Glamour Magick series
During Cancer season we are letting go and learning to go with the flow. At this point the tides are turning and we are drifting towards the second half of the year. Cancer season is here to support us no matter what phase we are in. It reminds us that what goes around comes around and that this too shall pass if we are braving stormy waters.
The Moon rules Cancer and only Cancer is ruled by the Moon. This creates a fluid, illuminating, regenerative, ever changing, intuitive, empathetic, dreamy, and magnetic vibe for the season. Working with Cancer and Moon aligned elements can immerse and empower your beauty routine with this energy.
When it comes to makeup subtle body shimmers, pearlescent hues, seashell and oceanic shades, and moon goddess silver are the vibe. At one point candle magic had nothing to do with colors. That is in fact a more modern aspect of candle magick. As magick grows and evolves I think we will begin to see glitter and shimmer incorporated into the practice. I know many of us glamor witches already do include it. A pearly nail polish, lip gloss with a dreamy seashell purple glimmer, and shimmering body oil just feel aligned right now.
Cancer is known as the homebody of the zodiac so our home space comes into the spotlight at this time. This is a wonderful time to reorganize your self care area whether it be the bathroom, a vanity, dresser, or something more portable. Including selenite in these spaces will keep the energy cleansed and feeling good.
There is a strong emphasis on our skin at this time. This isn’t just because we have to take special care not to damage our skin in the summer sun - our skin cycle and the moon have a unique and interesting connection similar to that of the menstrual cycle. Did you know our skin cycle has give or take the same amount of time as the moon cycle? As we age our skin cycle slows down and when we are young the turnover can happen as early as just two weeks, but on average the middle aged adult sits somewhere around 28 days. It takes about 28 days for your dermal skin cells to reach the surface of your skin and die off.
When it comes to fragrances Cancer has a very relaxed and bright scent profile. Relaxing aquatic scents like aloe, ozone, oceanic notes, water lily, coconut, and cucumber get you in the mood to let the hazy days of Cancer season wash away your stress. Clean bright notes like lemon, lemon balm, lily, jasmine, hydrangea, and gardenia - unironically these also make great home scents. There is also a deeply spiritual layer of fragrance tied into the Cancerian scent profile and that includes notes of sandalwood, saffron, and myrrh.
