The Beauty of Scorpio Season: Astrological Glamour Magick series

Are beauty trends just that - ‘trends’? Or are they something deeper? We’re seeing conversations happening around celebs reportedly ‘bringing back’ black nail polish for the season in fashion articles and the people pushing back saying black nails are not a trend, they’re simply part of our cultural traditions for this time of year. As a beauty witch it really gets me thinking about the seasons of beauty and also their relation to magick and astrology.
We find our roots, connection to the earth, our ancestors, our culture in our beauty routines. Beauty is connected to, influenced by, and part of the very nature of being alive. Our nails get darker with the nights, rich brown and red hair comes to the forefront matching the shades of the autumn leaves, and our personal fragrances become spicier and cozier. Sometimes it can be hard to see the connection in this modern world, but it has always been there. In fact the first barbers were also priests - beauty has always been spiritual.
Embracing the elements of the season into our beauty routines can help us feel aligned with the Earth and the astrological cycles. During Scorpio season how does astrological beauty look? This period can feel intense and emotional moving through a water sign ruled by Mars and Pluto. In Scorpio season we’re going through a period of transition, transformation, and rebirth. It’s also a highly charged spiritual time ripe with psychic energy and spiritual phenomena. We may lean into the tones of black, brown, crimson, orange, wine, plum, violet, and rust. For fragrance patchouli, vanilla, clove, ginger, ivy, lily, and dark fruits reign supreme.
Does a dumb supper feel out of your range to honor your ancestors? A spritz of their favorite perfume or wearing your great grandmother’s classic shade of lipstick is a beautiful way of honoring the dead. Shades of purple, black, and royal blue can help us tap into our psychic abilities at this time as well as seasonal staples like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. I like to store my beauty products with crystals so if your intent is to increase your intuition or connect with the otherside at this time you can leave moonstone, smoky quartz, and opal in your makeup box or stored with your hair accessories and tools.
Beauty has often been referred to as armor - in a way it truly is psychic armor. While the veil is thin we may also want to veil ourselves in beauty using protective colors like black, brown, and dark blue and red in our makeup routine. To me there is nothing more powerful than a red lip. You can opt for something more low key like moisturizers infused with dragon’s blood, elderberry, and pomegranate to layer protection all over your body. I love to add obsidian to my shampoo bottle at this time to create an invisible veil of protection. It’s a great time to keep petrified wood, black tourmaline, and garnet on your person or near your daily use items if you feel particularly sensitive to spiritual energies.
It’s prime bath season as we start to feel a chill in the air. Black, red, purple, and orange baths will be especially impactful at this time. Chrysanthemums, marigold, pomegranate, blackberries, ginger, and basil are wonderful plants to work with and bathe in at this time. Coffin bath bombs are a nice way to honor our ancestors and let go of the past as the end of the harvest season/growth cycle comes to a close.
